Cable was hobbled, so should Whittingdale be

Vince Cable was taken off mergers and monopolies decisions because he was stung by undercover Daily Telegraph reporters. John Whittingdale is more compromised in my opinion, so he should at least withdraw from decisions affecting the print media, which appear to be rather kind towards him.

Just as media spokesmen are claiming that the suppression of the story of Whittingdale's private life shows that "self-regulation is working", comes the revelation in Private Eye of the enthusiasm with which editors initially greeted reports of the scandal. Indeed, so far from respecting people's personal lives, the Sun is reported as seeking to overturn a court order preventing it naming a celebrity who enjoys liberal sexual liaisons.
