Sane political correctness

There may be people who consider that Anne Marie Morris was unfortunate to have been recorded using an offensive term, but considering the origin of the expression in question it is something she should have consciously cut out of her vocabulary a long time ago. It was already on its way out in polite society in the 1960s, so that when a consultant called in to sort out some difficulty in the early days of DVL described his rĂ´le as that of "wood in the n*****-pile" the younger members of his audience drew in their breath sharply. Perhaps he should have said that he was "oint in the flyment".
