They have some capital, it seems (Meghan in savings from her acting days, Harry inherited from his mother) but they are clearly looking for long-term stream of income other than from the civil list. It seems to me that, if the other heads of state agree, there could be a paid appointment at the head of the Commonwealth. The Prince of Wales is clearly out of sympathy with the non-white Commonwealth and has had to be pushed into accepting Commonwealth duties by his mother the Queen. The Sussexes have intimated that they want to base themselves in Canada, and indeed by the time this message is posted, Meghan will already have landed there. Taking on the Commonwealth leadership role from Canada will remove any objection that the organisation is too London-centred. And no prominent couple could me more obviously free of racial prejudice.
